Educational only

Everything we publish is general information for education. It is not medical, veterinary, legal, financial or professional advice, and no reader–professional relationship is created by reading it.

Plants and herbs

Identification matters: many useful plants have toxic look-alikes. Never eat, brew or apply a plant you cannot identify with certainty. Herbs can interact with medication and are not automatically safe in pregnancy, for children or for pets. Check with a qualified professional first.

Household chemicals

Always follow the product label — it overrides anything we write. Never mix bleach with ammonia, vinegar or other acids. Ventilate, wear protection, keep products in original containers and store them out of reach of children and animals.

Food, tools and repairs

Follow current food-safety guidance from your local authority for preserving, canning and storage. For gas, electrical and structural work, use a licensed professional.

In an emergency

For suspected poisoning, chemical exposure, or a medical emergency, contact your local emergency number or poison control centre immediately. Do not wait to look something up here.
